Top Picks - Elementary Books!

In response to a great number of parents asking me what books are out there for little kids to read? Are there any picture books that will keep my child’s attention? Here are a few books that are personal favorites of mine, and that my elementary students love.

The Pigeon Wants A Puppy

Written and Illustrated by: Mo Willems

The Pigeon Wants a Puppy

The Pigeon really, really, REALLY wants a Puppy. C’mon, he’ll take good care of it! He’ll play tennis with it, and water it at least once a month! Will you let Pigeon’s dream come true?

Goss Scale: 10/10 - AWESOME!

This book is one in a series of Pigeon books. Kids love that the pigeon is talking directly to them, and this book makes you laugh the entire time. This is one of my new favorite kids books!

Dr. Ted

By: Andrea Beaty and Paul Lemaitre

Doctor Ted

Ted wakes up one morning and bumps his knee. He needs a Doctor! The only problem is, there aren’t any doctors to be found! Ted then becomes Dr. Ted, and sets to work helping all of those who are sick in Mrs. Johnson’s class. This does not make Principal Bigham very happy, since there is already a school nurse! Will Dr. Ted be able to live his dream of being a great doctor?

Goss Scale - 9/10

This is an incredibly cute book. The illustrations are bright and really catch the readers eye. The only problem is that students may have a hard time understanding certain maladies - such as “gingivitis” are, especially if they are reading this book on their own. However, if this book is read together, these can be easily explained.
